A warm congratulation to the newly elected Executive Committee Members of Session 2020-2021 of the Economics and Finance Society BEA HKUSU (EFS).

In the past year, Hong Kong and the rest of the world have been facing unprecedented challenges brought forth by the coronavirus pandemic and the increasing geopolitical tension around the globe. We believe that resilience and innovation are vital for the young generation to stay competitive and to excel in the rapidly changing business and education landscape.

Established in 1940 and being one of the largest student bodies in The University of Hong Kong, EFS has been organising a diverse array of enrichment activities to stimulate students’ interests in different disciplines, broaden your horizons, unveil your potentials, and expand your professional network. All these forms an integral part of students’ university life that adds value to classroom learning and have you well-prepared to seize any arising opportunities. Hence, I strongly encourage EFS Members to proactively participate in the Society’s activities under this year’s theme of ‘Persist with Aspiration, Blossom with Delegation’.

2021 marks the 20th Anniversary of HKU Business School. There will be lots of exciting events and new developments. Just as our School’s tagline stated, ‘Inspire. Empower. Lead’, you will be inspiried and empowered to realise your dream, to reinvent yourself and to pursue excellence, leading your own way to success. We count on your valuable support and participation and look forward to growing stronger with you.

I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Economics and Finance Society BEA HKUSU on its 81st Inauguration Ceremony.

In 2020, the world of economics and finance has gone through dramatic changes. With the uncertainties ahead of us, we are facing immense challenges and hopefully these are also opportunities for our young generation.

I was a graduate of the HKU in the 80’s and also a Member of the Economics Society, now the Economics and Finance Society BEA HKUSU. Personally I have benefited from participating in activities hosted by the Society which had prepared me for the challenging career in the banking and finance field. I am glad to witness the growth and expansion of the Society and in its continued missions to inspire our young generation to explore the risks and opportunities in Hong Kong and around the globe.

I am a strong believer of out-of-the-classroom learning and always encourage my students to connect with the industry as much and as soon as possible. I look forward to the Economics and Finance Society BEA HKUSU to host events along such objectives and to provide your Members with an opportunity such that they can learn directly from industry practitioners.

I wish the new Cabinet of Economics and Finance Society BEA HKUSU every success.
